Focus Event

The Focus Event "Entrepreneurship Education" will take place as part of the Pioneers Festival and will be hosted by the Expat Center Vienna (Schmerlingplatz 3, 1010 Vienna, Austria).

Innovation can be a major source of prosperity for a nation. However, competition in this field is becoming increasingly strong. The “time-to-market”, i.e. the time which is needed to transfer knowledge from research centers to the market in the form of cutting-edge products and services, is an important competitive advantage in the global race for innovation. This is why we need innovative start-ups (and entrepreneurs who build them) as they distinctly shorten the time-to-market! But not only do we need more entrepreneurs for new start-ups – also established companies call for more entrepreneurial skills that allow them to perform so called “intrapreneurship”. So what do these entrepreneurial skills and capabilities look like? And how can we teach them to others?

Bjoern Lasse Herrmann, an experienced entrepreneur and founder of the Startup Genome (, talks about capabilities that successful entrepreneurs need and how we can impart these entrepreneurial capabilities. He initiated, a benchmarking tool for start-ups which identifies success factors and enables start-ups to make data driven decisions.

Dr. Thomas Funke, head of operations at the Research Studio eSPARK, will present methods & tools to educate entrepreneurship to students of all disciplines with the ultimate goal to increase knowledge-driven start-up foundations within the Viennese entrepreneurial ecosystem.
